Carmabi revives a centuries-old craft at Savonet Museum.
A historic forge is reopening at Landhuis Savonet, giving locals and visitors the chance to experience blacksmithing—a craft that once played an essential role in Curaçao’s community life. Thanks to new equipment and support from the Mondriaan Fund, the forge is ready to come back to life.

An internationally recognized blacksmith will complete the final tests in March 2025. After that, the Savonet Museum will offer courses and workshops where participants learn the basics of forging and create traditional objects such as knives, axes, nails, horseshoes, candle holders, and bottle openers. These handmade items will also be available in the museum shop.
Carmabi invites interested participants to join the first workshops from March 12 to 19 2025. While everyone is welcome, priority is given to residents of Bandabou to help preserve local skills and heritage. More extensive courses will follow later.
