Sometimes the smallest actions make the biggest difference.
The Spread Kindness project by Leo Club Curaçao focuses on something often overlooked: appreciation for the people who care for our seniors every day. While much attention is rightly given to residents of elderly homes, this initiative shines a light on the caregivers and staff who work with patience, compassion, and dedication behind the scenes.
Through this project, Leo Club members come together to create handmade flowers attached to pens. These are personally handed out to workers at elderly homes across the island as a simple but meaningful thank-you.
The goal of Spread Kindness is to let caregivers know they are seen and valued. A kind word and a small gift can lift spirits and create a moment of connection during a busy workday.
This project directly supports SDG 3 Good Health & Well-Being, with a focus on mental health. Feeling appreciated increases positive emotions and supports mental well-being. Acts of recognition can trigger the release of serotonin and dopamine, chemicals linked to feeling valued, motivated, and emotionally balanced.
As the Leo Club believes, something small can truly mean a lot to one person.
The project took place in Willemstad’s central urban area, where Leo Club Curaçao visited four local elderly homes. In one day, the team reached 107 caregivers, offering appreciation and encouragement exactly where it was needed.
Spread Kindness is a yearly project that takes place on a single dedicated day. The 2025’s edition happened on September 13, showing how consistent, simple actions can create lasting positive impact.
Mental well-being is not only about medical care. It is also about feeling recognized, supported, and respected. By focusing on caregivers, Leo Club Curaçao highlights an important truth: healthy communities depend on the well-being of those who care for others.
