City Nature Challenge Curaçao returns for its second edition: Community invited to join 2026 biodiversity event
Curaçao is getting ready to celebrate nature once again as the City Nature Challenge (CNC) returns for its second island edition from April 24 to 27, 2026. The international event invites participants of all ages to explore, photograph, and record wildlife in their neighborhoods, on the coast, in gardens, and anywhere nature lives. The results help map biodiversity worldwide and strengthen conservation knowledge.
To prepare the community for this global bioblitz, the local CNC team is launching the Curaçao Nature Masterclasses — a series of relaxed evening sessions designed to help people better recognize the wildlife around them. From birds and insects to plants, marine life, and even citizen science itself, these sessions make nature accessible to beginners and experts alike.
The masterclasses take place at Hofi Cas Cora, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM, with presenters including naturalists, photographers, and CNC contributors. Topics cover insects, arthropods, nature photography, birds, plants, animals on land, coral reefs, fish, and community science.
This year’s call to action is simple:
No registration. No pressure. Just show up. Everyone is welcome, especially beginners.
April 24–27 – Observe and photograph wildlife across Curaçao
April 28–May 10 – Help identify species on iNaturalist
May 13 – Global results announced
By joining, residents contribute directly to international biodiversity research while building local awareness of Curaçao’s rich natural world — supporting global goals like SDG 13 Climate Action, SDG 14 Life Below Water, and SDG 15 Life on Land.
Nature is everywhere. The challenge is to start noticing it. And this April, Curaçao will do that together.
