Aqualectra expands solar energy in Curaçao’s schools.
Phase 2 of the solar PV initiative brings clean, renewable energy to five additional schools across the island. With a combined DC capacity of 1,600 kW, this project enhances Curaçao’s diversified energy mix and supports a greener future.
By transforming schools into solar producers, the initiative boosts financial independence and sustainability within education. These efforts align with SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and SDG 13: Climate Action, reducing fossil-fuel dependence and lowering carbon emissions.
Aqualectra is ramping up its renewable energy investments with support from the Dutch Government’s SDE++ subsidy, recently targeting a renewable energy share of 70% by 2027 (up from ~50% in 2024). It also partners with Wärtsilä on battery energy storage systems (BESS) and energy management platforms to integrate and optimize solar and wind across the grid. Aqualectra continues collaborating with global players like the PowerOneForOne Foundation to advance solar solutions worldwide.
