Kaminata Yu i Tata 2025 Unites Curaçao in a Celebration of Fatherhood and Connection
Curaçao came together on Sunday, November 16, 2025, for another moving edition of Kaminata Yu i Tata (KYT25), an annual walk organized by Child First Foundation to highlight the essential role fathers and father figures play in the lives of children. The event gathered a vibrant crowd at the parking area of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB), where the day began with warm energy and collective purpose.
Christian Peterson, President of Child First Foundation, officially signaled the start around 6:00 a.m. Participants kicked off the morning with an uplifting Zumba session led by Demi Meertens, setting a joyful and united atmosphere for the walk ahead.
The route guided participants across the five iconic bridges of Willemstad. This symbolic journey reflected the bridges children and fathers build through love, presence, and support. Along the way, local artist Jean Girigori transformed the Emmabridge into a colorful expression of creativity and culture, adding a meaningful artistic moment to the event.
Kaminata Yu i Tata emphasizes the value of active and positive father involvement. Research consistently shows that children with committed father figures gain stronger emotional well-being, better cognitive development, and greater resilience. The diverse turnout of fathers, mothers, caregivers, families, and supporters illustrated the deep community belief in this message. The event aligns closely with SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5 Gender Equality, and SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities, as engaged parenting strengthens the social fabric of the island.
