Maris Stella prepares more than 340 students for Curaçao’s hospitality future
The Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA) recently visited Maris Stella School, where more than 340 students are actively preparing for careers in the island’s hospitality and tourism sector. The school offers a hands-on program in which students learn through real-life practice, gaining skills that match one of the most dynamic industries in Curaçao.
During the visit, the CHATA team met with Head of School Sonaima Jonis and Head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Amorette Leito Martis to discuss collaboration, future plans, and a stronger connection between education and the sector.
Students gain practical experience in several learning environments, from the canteen and kitchen where Niveau 1 students work daily, to the bakery area where discipline, technique, and creativity come together. These learning spaces help students build confidence and prepare for meaningful careers.
The visit highlighted the importance of continued investment in hospitality education. The sector benefits greatly from skilled young professionals, and additional support from hotels and tourism partners can help strengthen the path from school to employment. This effort supports SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by preparing the next generation for a thriving tourism industry in Curaçao.
