The State of the SDGs: Documentary Series Exploring Sustainability on Curaçao

The State of the SDGs is a new documentary series created to explore how sustainability truly takes shape on Curaçao. Developed by sustainability specialist Andy Kirchner together with filmmaker and content creator Jaydev Hemrajani, the series highlights the forces, stories, and people behind the island’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The production focuses on how the SDGs are applied in daily life, what they mean for communities, and how local action strengthens Curaçao’s social and environmental future. Through interviews, research, and real experiences, the documentary gives viewers a clear and accessible look at challenges and solutions across the island, aligning closely with principles reflected in SDG 1 No Poverty, SDG 3 Good Health and Well-being, SDG 10 Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Exclusive Viewing at the SER

An exclusive preview of the pilot episode took place at the Sociaal-Economische Raad (SER) of Curaçao. The viewing highlighted growing concern about issues such as poverty among seniors, food insecurity, and the importance of social programs like the Daily Meal Program. These themes reappear throughout the series, showing the human reality behind sustainability targets and the importance of community support structures.

The documentary’s early screening also underscored the need for reliable data, collaboration, and policy alignment to strengthen Curaçao’s long-term resilience. Attendees from multiple sectors discussed how the SDGs can guide decisions and support a future where well-being and sustainable development are shared priorities.

Twelve-Part Series Featuring Local Impact

The State of the SDGs will be released as a 12‑episode series, each focusing on a different aspect of sustainability. From economic resilience and social welfare to environmental challenges and innovation, every episode highlights local projects, grassroots initiatives, and the systems shaping life on the island.

The project is made possible through community support and local partnerships. Filming locations include public institutions, community centers, businesses, and island landmarks connected to Curaçao’s sustainability story.
